Championing Environmental Sustainability: How Vivo Energy and Partners Addressed the Polythene Question with the Tuve Ku Kaveera Campaign

3 February 2024

Vivo Energy Uganda, in collaboration with NBS Television and National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), launched an environmental campaign called “Tuve Ku Kaveera – Relieve our Environment.” This campaign aimed to raise awareness among the public about the detrimental effects of single-use plastic bags, known as Kaveera, on our environment. The campaign was officially launched on the 3rd of August, 2018 at Shell Bugolobi.

The primary objective of the “Tuve Ku Kaveera” campaign was to sensitize individuals and communities about the dangers posed by Kaveera and promote the adoption of alternative packaging solutions. Single-use plastic bags have become a significant environmental concern due to their non-biodegradable nature. These bags often end up in landfills, water bodies, and even natural habitats, posing a threat to wildlife and ecosystems.

Through this campaign, Vivo Energy Uganda, NBS Television, and NEMA encouraged the public to stop using Kaveera and explore sustainable alternatives. By reducing the consumption of single-use plastic bags, we can significantly minimize the negative impact on our environment. The campaign provided information on eco-friendly packaging options and raised awareness about the importance of recycling and reusing materials.

It is crucial for individuals, businesses, and communities to take active steps towards reducing their reliance on Kaveera. By embracing reusable bags, biodegradable packaging, and other sustainable practices, we can contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment. The “Tuve Ku Kaveera – Relieve our Environment” campaign serves as a platform to educate and empower individuals to make environmentally conscious choices.

Together, let us join hands and work towards a future free from the harmful effects of single-use plastic bags. By saying no to Kaveera and embracing environmentally friendly alternatives, we can create a positive impact on our surroundings. Let us take responsibility for the well-being of our environment and strive for a more sustainable future.
