Absa Bank Uganda, in collaboration with the Kampala Hash House Harriers (KH3) unveiled the second edition of the Absa KH3 – 7 Hills Run, scheduled to occur on Sunday, 17 March 2024, at the Kololo Airstrip. This 21km run, traversing the seven iconic hills of Kampala, is dedicated to supporting the education of girl children in Uganda.
The initiative aims to address the challenges faced by girls in accessing education, such as poverty, cultural norms, early marriages, unwanted pregnancies, and menstrual hygiene management issues. Absa Bank Uganda is committed to creating a positive impact and believes that education is a fundamental right for every child, regardless of gender.
The inaugural run, held on 28 May 2023, was a tremendous success, attracting over 2,600 participants and raising UGX 200 million, directly benefiting over 2,500 girls. The 2024 edition seeks to build on this success and make an even greater impact in supporting girl-child education efforts.
Helen Basuuta Nangonzi, the bank’s Marketing and Customer Experience Director, expressed pride in providing a platform for individuals, corporate entities, and running clubs to contribute positively towards this important cause. The event aims to foster team spirit, promote health and wellness, and support girl-child education in line with Absa’s purpose to empower Africa’s tomorrow.
The 2024 run promises to be fun and inclusive, catering to a diverse range of runners, including professionals. Participants can anticipate competing for prizes across multiple categories. This event offers a unique opportunity for the public to support a vital cause and contribute positively to society.
